Blaenau Gwent prevent project planned and delivered a Welsh Culture Project from the dates 27-30th of August 2013. The project was an opportunity for young people to learn about  Welsh culture and heritage.

Throughout the week the young people visited different businesses and museums with the young people also going to St Fagons where they spent the afternoon learning about the historic buildings on the site, the way Welsh people lived in the early 1900’s as well as working in groups to explore the natural areas of St Fagns.

On the Wednesday the young people visited a local Cheddar Company in Blaenavon, this was no ordinary Cheddar Company the young people tasted different award winning cheeses, and asked the employer questions on the business and how it operates. On that very same day the young people came back to the Ebbw Vale Institute to meet with a lady from Sugar Loaf Soaps who runs her own business selling soaps and balms. The young people took part in a workshop on setting up their own business and what skills and abilities you would need to start and run a successful business.

On the Thursday the young people visited Big Pit in Blaenavon. This was another great opportunity for the young people to learn about the way the Welsh people worked in the early 1900’s taking a trip underground and having a guided tour of the mine. On the Friday the young people participated in a pottery session making tiles and pots with Welsh designs on them.

The young people also engaged in a cooking session making Welsh cakes, which were amzing to eat. The project was also accredited with the young people working through an ACU entry level 3 qualification around Welsh Cultural Studies.
