The Prevent 14 - 19 project worked alongside Educ8e in a week long employability project. The project was delivered in the Ebbw Vale Institute in Ebbw Vale, which is the base for Blaenau Gwent Youth Service.

The young people who participated on the course had the opportunity to improve and develop their employability skills to stand them in good stead for future training and employment.

Throughout the course the young people worked towards a BTEC Level 1 in work skills, achieved 4 nationally recognised qualifications, entrepreneurial skills, and a sound understanding of the world of work.

As the weeks went by the  young people have also completed CV’S and covering letters, completed a intensive one day accredited first aid at work course, food hygiene and have also worked  their way through work skills booklets so they can achieve their qualifications.

The young people are now going to engage with numerous employers from around the Blaenau Gwent area, such as , Tai Calon, Career’s Wales, Working Links. This is another great opportunity for the young people as they will understand what is required of them to sucessfully gain a work placement and what skills and abilities they would need to go into their chosen occupation.

When we asked what the young people thought of the project here is what they said:

‘’ Great course, I Got a better understanding of the world of work’’ Anna aged 18

‘’Quite good  I gained more confidence and met new friends!  Stephen aged 17

‘’Awesome plus I met new people and have learnt a lot!’’ Tamara aged 15

If this sounds like something you would like to do and your aged between 14 to 19 years old and could do with some help in getting ready for work and the next step after school or college give Ryan Mansfield a call on 01495 35690 or on email rhyan.mansfield@blaenau-gwent.gov.uk.
