Over the October half term, PreVent delivered another Football Project down in Abertillery Sports Centre. The week long project was coached by ex Man United and Cardiff City player Dereck Brazil. The project gave young people the opportunity to improve specific skills like their basic skills, confidence, communication skills and their group skills by engaging in different skills sessions linked to football.

On the Monday, Tuesday and the Wednesday the young people worked on skills sessions which improved their passing, movement and communication and then they implemented what they had learnt in a team game in the afternoon.

On the Thursday the 31st Of October the young people participated in a football tournament with partners such as Career Wales and the Youth Service taking part. It was a fun filled afternoon which got very competitive in bad weather conditions, however the young people all enjoyed the experience and collected medals at the end of the day for their attitude and participation towards the project.

On The Friday the 1st of November, as a reward trip the young people travelled down to Cardiff for a tour around the stadium. The young people were shown around the changing rooms, media suites, playing field and the player’s lounge. Then in the afternoon the young people played an indoor football match in one of the modern sports halls linked to Cardiff City and were coached by one of the academy coaches Joel.

The project was a big success just as it was in the summer with all the young people giving positive feedback on the delivery and the structure of the programme.  Prevent would like to thank Dereck Brazil for the delivery of the project and his relationship with the young people throughout the week.

Quotes from young people..
‘’ Enjoyed the project and met new friends’’ Dewi 16
