Summer Football

16 young people aged 14-19 linked to the PreVENT project and Blaenau Gwent Youth Service attended a Summer Football Project from 12th- 16th and 19th and 20th of August.

The project was designed to improve young people’s confidence, self esteem, ability to work in a team and also improve basic skills. Young people were coached by Derek Brazil former Manchester United and Cardiff city player, who has various UEFA coaching licences.

Derek, his team and the PreVENT staff worked alongside the young people to enhance the skills mentioned above and to prepare the team for a match against a selected Careers Wales and Blaenau Gwent Countuy Borough Council team on the Friday.

Then on August the 20th, as a celebratory session the group were taken to Cardiff City’s stadium, were the young people received a tour of the stadium and a training session with one of the Cardiff City development coaches..

PreVENT will be aiming to run similar sessions and projects in the future due to this successful project, and any young people aged betwen 14 to 19 years old can get involved.
